We’re seeing lots of bright color in the kids market. MULTI-COLOR to be exact. Kids are so inspiring to us, from the art they create, to the outfits they put together on their own. Mix and match has always been one of our principles, and we love how you can mix all the colors of the spectrum and make it work for kids.

Colorful floral prints are always popular when the weather gets hot. What’s more unusual for summer are florals with a darker side. I’ve always loved these kinds of floral textiles on black ground popular in the 1930’s, and it’s so great to see that this trend is being embraced by certain fashion designers right now. Black really lends a sense of mystery to this normally cheery category of prints, don’t you think?

When it comes to summer color ideas for dressing and decorating, why not take inspiration from summer hot spots that embrace color? Take a cue from the bright, vibrant colors of Burano. Electric blues, fresh teals, and crimson reds are perfect complements to the sun-soaked days of summer.

Trend Bible: Color Saviors

Yesterday I posted this tweet in a pre-Highpoint craze (49 days to go!), and the lovely ladies of Trend Bible offered up their help to answer the question that had my head-spinning: What color works best with yellow?

I love how fresh you made the yellow look when you popped it with turquoise. It makes me think of an amazing Palm Springs moment. Given how cold it is in New York - this is not only fabulous- it's like a mini vacation.

Trend Alert: Owls!

Rachel and I popped down to the Atlanta Gift Show on Friday for a super secret project (more to come later!) and we were thrilled to see owls everywhere. We love it when we are spot on.....

These ceramic pieces are great! Love the raised textures.

Most people wouldn’t notice right away but this duvet has an owl in it! Rachel’s nightstand would look great with one of those owl figurines....

Not sure what these were – laundry sacks? Very flat stuffed animals?

But they would definitely work in this nursery.....hmmmmm.

A common theme we've been seeing lately in editorials and art is the use of floral headdresses. Its kind of regal and whimsical at the same time. We are especially feeling inspired by the work of Dutch Illustrator Olaf Hajek (seen bottom left) and his use of botanical elements mixed with the unexpected.

I love getting inspiration from one color and seeing where it takes me. This time the color is coral which is a very big trend right now. This week we kick off a new column on the blog, brought to you straight from our design studio. Today’s post is from our fabulous product designer: Rachel. The column will give you a peek into what’s in our heads (and literally pinned up on our bulletin boards) in terms of inspiration, mood, color and often things we are lusting after for ourselves.

Here’s Rachel...

I've been really into this whole "cosmic" idea. Feeling geology, stars,
galaxies, swirls of constellations. There are tons of geodes and minerals out
there for home décor and jewelry, and I want to buy all of it!

The geos at the bottom of the page are coasters and a trivet from Anthropologie, the
outfits are from this Australian company called Secret Squirrel, earrings
from Cat Bird, necklace from ABC Carpet, and the art in the frames are oil
paintings (if you can believe it) by Carly Waito
