We recently hosted a cookies-and-milk party for the kiddies at one of our favorite stores - GUMPS - in San Francisco. We thought we'd give you a little peek at the event, which featured our Cali-based sales manager and her kids reading DwellStudio books.

I was fortunate enough to be able to photograph Stephanie Lockeman's apartment in Bertrand Goldberg’s dramatic sculptural “Corn Cob” towers in Chicago’s iconic Marina City (1959-1967) for my book Undecorate. Now through January 15th, The Art Institute of Chicago is celebrating Goldberg’s dramatic sculptural forms and innovative engineering that have long been recognized as seminal contributions to the built environment of Chicago. The exhibition is the first comprehensive retrospective of the architect’s work. For those who can’t make it to Chicago – here is an exclusive glimpse into these amazing spaces that have not been touched since the building was first built. Don't you think the tonal brown tiles in the bathroom are still relevant and amazingly chic still? Great design is timeless. For more read here.

Sneak Peek: NYDC Launch Party

One of the perks of attending trade shows is getting to go to all the fabulous parties that are thrown during the events. Last night we co-hosted a soiree to celebrate the launch of our new Decor collection! We had a blast showing off the line in the Global Views showroom at the New York Design Center.

Art Class at CMOM

Hi all New Yorkers and visiting New Yorkers! I’ll be teaching an art class for 5-12 year olds at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan this Saturday afternoon. I’d love to meet some of your smiling faces and work with your kids on creating art inspired by nature. Obviously I’m very inspired by nature in our designs, so this will be a fun class for me. I'm so excited for this Saturday at CMOM (Children's Museum of Manhattan) - I'll be there in the afternoon, leading a really fun art/healthy sleep habits project with the incredible team there. We're going to be talking about what kids love about their bedrooms and beds and decorating pillow cases with our (unreleased, shh!) stamp sets and markers for the kids to take home. They also take home this adorable sleep journal:

The entire day is devoted to healthy sleep habits for kids (a topic I am EXTREMELY passionate about!) - and there's tons of great activities all day long, but my part is at 3pm and 4pm with a sign-up art session with moi. I'd love to see you and your kiddies there if you are in the city for this gorgeous fall NYC weekend! Get the full day's events here.

I Love NY - Reason #4: CMOM!

The Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) is one of the greatest places on Earth. I'm not kidding. When I take my little guy Lucas to the Upper West Side of Manhattan, his eyes start darting, looking around for the big blue awning.

Rain or shine, it doesn't matter - he can't get in that door quickly enough. There are a lot of places that kids love that aren't necessarily good for them, but any parent's dream is to take your kid to place they love and know that he or she is actually being educated, stimulated and challenged...and CMOM is this fairy-tale place.

Since this isn't the first time you'll hear about CMOM from us, I won't bog you down with all the details - you can read all about how this magical place speaks to kids of ALL ages here. But I do want to call your attention to their director, who is being honored tomorrow night at the first CMOM Gala, which we were fortunate enough to be asked to help decorate.

Andy Ackerman is one of those true New York gems - we will have much more to report about Andy after we attend the Gala tomorrow night...but we want to publicly commend Andy for being so passionate about children; their education, their health, their creative inspiration and more. He has dedicated 20 years to this very worthy cause and it takes a very special person to have that kind of commitment.

DwellStudio's partnership with CMOM is only beginning - tomorrow night's Gala is somewhat of a kick-off to a much bigger campagin we are equally passionate about regarding children's sleep and their investment in their personal space. We hope you'll all take a minute to read about them, possibly donate if you have the means. And by all means...if you have kids and live in or visit NYC anytime soon - run, do not walk to CMOM for a day of serious fun and education for your kiddies!
