Every summer die-hard fashionistias and art history lovers make the uptown sojourn to view the Met's Costume Institute exhibition—and here at DwellStudio we were first in line on opening day! This year's show—Impossible Conversations—brings together two iconic Italian designers: Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli. Though seemingly different, these women used their design prowess to exploit the norms of fashion.

Earlier today we introduced you to our PR-gal Molly. The next rad mom we're featuring as a part of our Style/Squared contest over on Pinterest is HATCH Collection's Rachael Bergstein. She's an Art Director for HATCH, one of her favorite clients (especially right now!) and we couldn't wait to get all her chic little secrets on how she keeps it cool in the city while juggling her career, toddler and pregnancy!

Rachael is wearing The Tank Dress in cobalt silk from HATCH Collection.

How do you balance your work, personal and family lives?

It's tough sometimes, but never boring. It begins early, and there isn't much sitting around. But I love it, and it keeps me creative and on my toes. I also have an incredible nanny, and a wonderful husband!

Where are you from originally?

Pound Ridge, New York

Where do you live now?

East Village

Where are your favorite places to go with your kid in your neighborhood?

Tompkins Square Park, the soccer field across from my studio.

Describe your everyday style.

I like to have a balance to my look and for it to be not overly complicated, so not many patterns or frilly things. I like a little boy-meets-girl. Some punky tough-ness mixed with a little boho sometimes, or just something that can cut and balance. High meets low, always clean and modern. Plus layering on some jewelry from my friend’s line Made Her Think is an easy way feel edgy and chic.

As a part of our Style/Squared contest over on Pinterest, we asked our own Molly Peterson—Communications Director here at DwellStudio—for her secrets to outfitting the nursery, dressing in maternity-chic and maintaining her sartorial sanity with a toddler in tow—and one on the way!

Molly is wearing the Dinner Party Dress and The Coat from HATCH Collection.

How do you balance your work, personal and family lives?

I’m lucky to have the BEST husband who understands that I love my job and takes over when I can’t at home. I try not to sweat the small stuff and make life easier where I can – i.e. Going out for dinner A LOT.

Where are you from originally?

Lawrence, KS

Where do you live now?

Brooklyn, NY

Where are your favorite places to go with your kid in your neighborhood?

I live right on the border of Williamsburg and Greenpoint, so I get the best of both neighborhoods. We love:

Hotel Delmano for weekend late afternoons with other families.

McCarren Park for play dates.

Egg for Sunday pancakes.

Five Leaves for hot chocolate & coffee.

Sweet William for clothes for Lucas.

The East River waterfront for running like crazy.

Describe your everyday style.

A little bohemian, a little luxe.

As a part of our Style/Squared contest on Pinterest, we're celebrating stylish moms this week on the Studio blog. First up is an interview with Chrisy Turlington Burns. Of course many of you know her as part of fashion's elite, but she's now using her celebrity to raise awareness for maternal health issues around the world through her charity Every Mother Counts.

On a rainy morning in New York last week Hatch Collection Designer Ariane Goldman and DwellStudio Founder Christiane Lemieux caught up with Christy over coffee at Starbucks. The three stylish moms had a great conversation about balancing motherhood, charity and personal style! Check it out...

Q: Give us the background story on what inspired you to start Every Mother Counts.

A: I experienced a complication after delivering my daughter eight years ago that I later learned could have been life threatening, especially if I had not been where I was when I delivered and perhaps even more important, in the hands of a qualified team that included a doula, nurses, midwife and ultimately an OB. This experience got me thinking about other women and the challenges that so many of them face that contribute to hundreds of thousands of preventable deaths around the world every year. I wanted to share what I learned and I thought that a documentary film would be the best way to connect women through the shared experience of childbirth. I started filming No Woman, No Cry in 2008 and premiered it in 2010 at the Tribeca Film Festival. The film tells the personal stories of pregnant women and their caregivers in four countries. Once I completed the documentary I decided to launch Every Mother Counts so that audiences could learn more about the challenges and solutions and get involved in a meaningful way.

On the way to the studio, I dropped by Starbucks to grab a copy of the new Every Mother Counts CD (and coffee, of course!). We've been listening to the awesome tunes all morning—many are exclusive tracks on parenthood from some seriously heavy players like Patti Smith, Rufus Wainwright and Eddie Vedder.

The proceeds from the album go towards our friend Christy Turlington Burns' organization—Every Mother Counts—which raises awareness for community-based maternal health programs around the world. You can pick up a copy at Starbucks through December 2012 or find it online.

Christy also launched her No Mother's Day PSA today. Which is her way of honoring the difficult pregnancies and births that many mother's around the world experience. Here at DwellStudio we recognize that we're so lucky to celebrate Mother's Day, so we think Christy's No Mother's Day campaign is a pretty unique way to call attention to the importance of raising awareness and support for maternal health globally. Check out the video...

P.S. Stay tuned to the Studio blog for an exciting new promo and a full Q & A with Christy next week!

We’re excited that our very first brick-and-mortar shop is set to open this June on lovely cobblestone-lined Wooster Street. Our new retail home just happens to be nestled in SoHo among a slew of galleries, cafes, fashion outposts and of course the impossibly cool people who inhabit this art-centric neighborhood. To introduce you to our nabe, we’ve drawn up a mini-guide with a few of our favorite places to eat, drink, browse and get inspired. Stay tuned as we update you with more locales we love in the coming weeks! Enjoy!
