Mommy Moment - Induction!

We not only design baby products here at DwellStudio – we make a lot of babies too. Congrats to Rachel Fresno, our production manager...she is being induced Monday! Rachel is visibly nervous today – she is having her first – he weighs over 8 lbs – she maybe weighs 90...well we all know how it goes. She has been asking everyone who has had a baby for advice. Jenna and I had this to offer her: get the epidural and get it fast. If any one out there has good advice for a first time inductee – Rachel is listening....

The best advice I got was to be well informed about all the procedures and be ready to embrace it all. Don't be disappointed if you don't have a natural childbirth, if you have to be induced etc. Who really cares anyway. You want the end result which is a healthy little baby. And that's the best.. Also.. I really wanted to experience that birthing process so BEFORE you scream for the epidural, go with the flow. You will surprise yourself new mama! Seriously, enjoy. There are so many doctors and nurses to help you out, there's nothing to be worried about. Good luck!

i agree - get the epidural and then stay in the hospital as long as they will let you. get someone to help at home - family, friends.... but the best advice i got: get a babysitter, get a maid, and get meds for post partum depression if you need them.

I just have to say how cute is Rachel & her 'pop out' belly ! I'm yet to have our first little one (will be in the next year or so) .. so have been reading the comments .. scary ! Hope it all goes well Rachel !

Having been in your position, once induction begins, do not take the epidural too soon. I agree with Chantale P that your best course is to be informed, but in my experience, an epidural too soon during induction can stall progress and move you to irregular labor, which increases the risk that you will end up with a c-section. Make sure they are lined up to give you the epidural on short notice. Talk with your doctors about this.
